Hello !

I’m Supratik Saikia, and I’ve spent over a decade working in the development sector, focusing on sustainable livelihood programs and agricultural projects. My journey has taken me to rural communities, where I've had the privilege of working closely with artisans and farmers, helping to improve their standard of living and uplift the incomes of marginalized groups.

In my career, I've had the chance to contribute to some remarkable projects, including EU-sponsored organic consumption and production initiatives, as well as value chain projects funded by JAICA, FAO, HDFC Bank, and other multilateral organizations. These experiences have fueled my passion for enterprise development and social entrepreneurship, showing me that business can be a powerful force for good when it creates jobs and drives economic growth in a way that benefits everyone.

I firmly believe that the key to increasing income and supporting rural communities is to create as many job opportunities as possible. My work has given me invaluable insights into the unique challenges faced by these communities and the innovative approaches needed to overcome them. Whether it's implementing projects on the ground or developing social enterprise business models, I strive to make a tangible impact in every endeavor.

I enjoy connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations to drive change, and I’m always eager to explore new opportunities for collaboration.

The Journey

In my journey through the world of sustainable livelihood, whether it's farm-based agriculture or non-farm enterprises, I've been driven by a mission to make a tangible difference in the lives of rural communities. It all began during my tenure handling community development projects and European Union projects, where I closely collaborated with organic farmers to ensure their produce met the highest standards. Transitioning to roles in e-commerce and social enterprises, my focus shifted to bridging the gap between farmers and markets. Each step along this path has been about forging a brighter future for rural communities and marginalized farmers. Amidst these endeavors, I've also ventured into projects leveraging satellite remote sensing data to safeguard forest reserves, showcasing my dedication to exploring innovative avenues to support sustainable farming practices. However, the real story unfolds when I embarked on setting up enterprise development initiatives during my initial years in the field. Working in the outskirts of the National Capital Region and states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Uttarakhand, I witnessed firsthand the dire need for resources in these communities. The challenge was to establish models that could effectively utilize these resources while adhering to the principles of sustainable development goals. Thus, the seeds of innovation were sown, leading to the conception of various concepts aimed at meeting the needs of marginalized communities while catering to the demand for healthy consumption. It was during this time that the idea of Jhumur took shape, aiming to give back to the tea tribal community. Through perseverance and dedication, each concept evolved into a tangible solution, bringing us closer to our vision of creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
